Symptoms & Causes

There are a variety of symptoms and possible causes of breast cancer. A mammogram is recommended if you are concerned about symptoms, risk factors or family history.

Breast Cancer Symptoms

Initially, breast cancer may not cause any symptoms. A lump may be too small for you to feel or may not cause any unusual changes you can notice on your own.

Breast Cancer Risk Factors

There are some factors which may slightly increase a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer.

BRCA1 & BRCA2

BRCA1 and BRCA2 have become commonly known as the breast cancer genes. 5% of breast cancers are caused because a faulty BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene has been inherited.

Breast Cancer Diagnosis

We diagnose breast cancer using a triple assessment process to ensure that the maximum possible number of cancers is found.

Breast Cancer Stages

Breast cancer stages are defined by the size of the cancer and whether the cancer has spread beyond where it initially started.
